Albert King – Born Under A Bad Sign

Κάποτε ο Mike Bloomfield  είπε τα έξις λόγια για τον  Albert King "Μπορεί να πάρει

τέσσερις νότες και να γράψει ένα ολόκληρο album."

Αναμφισβήτητα, ένα από τα σπουδαιότερα album που γράφτηκαν ποτέ, που κυκλοφόρησε

το 1967είναι το Born Under A Bad Sign ,

από τον  μεγαλύτερο μεταπολεμικά -World War II -κατά την άποψη μου βασιλιά της blues

μουσικής Albert King.

Ο Αlbert King (To κανονικό του όνομα ήταν Albert Nelson) γεννήθηκε στις 25 Απριλίου

1923 στην Indianola , Mississippi.

Ένας κορυφαίος αριστερόχειρας, αυτοδίδακτος, κιθαρίστας, με μια αυτοσχέδια κιθάρα και

έντονα επηρεασμένος από τον θρυλικό,  Blind Lemmon Jefferson.

 Ωστόσο αν και αριστερόχειρας έπαιζε πάντοτε δεξιόχειρες κιθάρες τις οποίες γύριζε

ανάποδα, έτσι ώστε το μπάσο μι της κιθάρας ήταν προς τα κάτω. Ύστερα έπαιζε με κιθάρες

οι οποίες ήταν για αριστερόχειρες, αλλά πάλι τις χορδές τις ήθελε ανάποδα.

Το θέμα βέβαια δεν είναι αν ήταν αριστερόχειρας ή πως κρατούσε την κιθάρα, αλλά το τι

μπορούσε να δημιουργήσει με αυτήν.

Τα πρώτα χρόνια έφτιαξε μια μπάντα, τους Groove Boys τους οποίους κράτησε μέχρι το 1950. Για κάποιο διάστημα έπαιξε τύμπανα μαζί με τον Jimmie

Reed.To 1953 έπεισε τον ιδιοκτήτη της δισκογραφικής Parrot label να τον ηχογραφήσει σαν σόλο κιθαρίστα και τραγουδιστή.

Όλα αυτά μέχρι το 1966, όπου εκτινάχτηκε στην υψηλότερη θέση της blues μουσικής,  όταν υπέγραψε με την εταιρία STAX .

Ενώνοντας  της δυνάμεις του με τους  Booker T. Jones και τον William Bell.

Με αποτέλεσμα να γραφτεί το1966,  ένα από τα σπουδαιότεραalbum, ένα τραγούδι που θα ακούγετε για πάντα το BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN.

Στην διάρκεια της καριέρας του, συνεργάστηκε με πολλούς μεγάλους καλλιτέχνες, τον Jimi Hendrix, τον John Mayall και άλλους, ενώ επίσης και στην

Ελλάδα, την συναυλία του  άνοιξαν οι BLUES WIRE.

Ο Αlbert King έφυγε από τη ζωή στις 21 Δεκεμβρίου του 1992, έχοντας επηρεάσει τρεις γενιές κιθαριστών.

 Ήταν όλοι τους παιδιά του: Τζίμι Χέντριξ, Έρικ Κλάπτον, Στίβι Ρέι Βον, Γκάρι Μουρ.

 Ο τρόπος που χτυπούσε, ο τρόπος που λύγιζε τις χορδές με τον αντίχειρά. Ο τρόπος που κούρδιζε την κιθάρα, κατέληξαν σχολή. Που είναι βέβαιο ότι

θα επηρεάσουν και τους ερχόμενους καλλιτέχνες.
